Functional Integration (FI) is a one-on-one teaching method whereby a practitioner teaches the student through hands-on manipulation and verbally-guided movement. Unlike Awareness Through Movement, this form of teaching is tailored specifically to the needs of the individual student. The practitioner helps the student to improve movements that are particularly (often mysteriously) difficult for him or her, to reduce pain, and help the student learn more and more to move as an "integrated" whole.
